WILD DOG SAFARI ITINERARY

  • DAY 1: Arrival in Dar es Salaam / Transfer to Hotel

    Upon arrival at Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR), formerly Dar es Salaam International Airport and located approximately 12 km southwest of the city you will be warmly welcomed by our Predators Safari Club, airport representative. Our representative will be waiting just outside the customs hall at the designated pickup area, holding a sign with your name for easy identification. A complimentary private airport transfer will be provided for all travellers. You will be driven comfortably from the airport to Dar es Salaam city, a journey of approximately 45 minutes. Your accommodation is conveniently located on the outskirts of the city.

  • DAY 2 & 3: Nyerere National Park

    DAY 2:

    After breakfast, your safari guide will pick you up early from your hotel. Begin your adventure with a scenic drive from Dar es Salaam to Nyerere National Park, approximately 5–6 hours via the Kilwa Kibiti road toward Mloka village. You will enter the park through Mtemere Gate, located on its eastern border. Along the way, enjoy a short en-route game drive once you enter the Nyerere National Park, spotting wildlife as you make your way to your safari camp. Upon arrival, check in at your camp, nestled in the heart of the park, and take some time to relax before lunch. In the afternoon, embark on a scenic boat safari along the Rufiji River. From this unique water-level perspective, you’ll have excellent opportunities to observe hippos, crocodiles, and a wide variety of birds. Keep an eye on the riverbanks, where Elephants, Giraffes, Buffaloes, and even Lions are often seen cooling off or grazing.

    DAY 3:

    After breakfast, your safari adventure continues explore Nyerere National Park. Today, you have the choice between two thrilling experiences; Walking Safari, accompanied by an experienced guide, explore the park on foot and get up close with its flora, fauna, and smaller wildlife. Learn to identify animal tracks, local plants, and the ecosystem as you traverse the landscape at a leisurely pace. Guided Safari in a 4x4 safari vehicle, Journey through the enchanting Lake Maze area. Follow winding paths along shimmering lakes, meandering rivers, and dense bushlands, where a diverse array of wildlife awaits. Keep your eyes peeled for African hunting dogs, majestic Elephants, Lions, graceful Giraffes, formidable Buffalo, and a variety of Antelopes. As the sun casts its golden glow over the water, the scenery becomes even more magical, offering extraordinary photography opportunities and unforgettable safari memories. This is the prime time for wildlife spotting, increasing your chances of seeing multiple species in quick succession—turning every moment into a thrilling adventure.

  • DAY 4: Nyerere National Park / City of Morogoro

    After breakfast, check out and spend the morning exploring Nyerere National Park. Embark on a guided game drive in a 4x4 safari vehicle, traveling from the east to the northwest of the park. The drive is at a relaxed pace, allowing ample time to admire the stunning scenery and observe wildlife, with special attention to African hunting dogs, lions, and leopards, which are often seen in the floodplains and woodlands. The game drive concludes at Matambwe Gate in the northwest. From there, continue your journey toward Kisaki and Matombo Villages, crossing the Uluguru Mountain Highlands—a region renowned for its exceptional birdwatching opportunities, ancient forests, and rich biodiversity. By late afternoon, arrive in the city of Morogoro, notable for its historical German colonial buildings and ancient temples, offering a charming blend of cultural heritage and natural beauty.

  • DAY 5 & 6: Mikumi Naitonal Park

    DAY 5:

    After breakfast, we drive to Mikumi National Park along the busy Dar es Salaam–Mbeya highway, passing through a number of lively African villages. where we will spend 2 nights enjoying wildlife viewing and guided game drives in a 4x4 safari vehicle. Mikumi National Park borders Nyerere National Park to the south, and together they form a vast, interconnected ecosystem. To the west and north, the park is framed by the Udzungwa and Uluguru Mountains, creating an important network of protected natural habitats. Mikumi is renowned for its sweeping plains, iconic baobab trees, and rich diversity of wildlife. Visitors may encounter Elephants, Lions, African wild dogs, Zebras, Impala, Common Eland, Kudu, Hippos, and the rare Sable antelope. The park is also home to more than 400 bird species, making it an exceptional destination for bird enthusiasts. The landscape is characterized by classic East African savanna vegetation, dotted with Acacia, Baobab, Palm, and Tamarind trees, perfect for scenic photography and excellent wildlife-viewing opportunities.

    DAY 6:

    After breakfast, we continue exploring Mikumi National Park. The park shares its name with Mikumi Village, located just beyond its western boundary near the Dar es Salaam–Iringa highway, which runs through the park for approximately 50 Km. Guests enjoy two activities each day a morning and afternoon game drive providing excellent opportunities for wildlife viewing in a 4x4 safari vehicle. Mikumi boasts a rich and diverse wildlife population, and visitors can spot a wide range of animals, including predators such as African wild dogs, Lions, Leopards, Hyenas, and many more. 

    Overnight stay at Foxes Vuma Hills Tented Camp or Camp Bastian Mikumi.

  • DAY 7: Mikumi National Park / Ruaha National Park

    After breakfast, we check out of the lodge and set off on a morning game drive in Mikumi National Park. At around 9:00 AM, we begin our journey to Ruaha National Park. The drive takes approximately 6–7 hours and follows the busy Dar es Salaam–Mbeya highway, winding through the scenic Kitonga Hills, past the Udzungwa Mountains, and onward through the historic town of Iringa before continuing toward Ruaha. Ruaha National Park is the largest national park in Tanzania and the largest protected area in all of East Africa. It takes its name from the Great Ruaha River, which flows along the park’s southeastern border and is one of the prime areas for wildlife viewing. The park can be reached either by road or by small aircraft. In the late afternoon, we enter the park through Msembe Gate and continue to our lodge, where we will spend the next three nights. accommodation will be located inside the Ruaha park.

  • DAY 7, 8 & 9: Ruaha National Park

    DAY 8:

    After breakfast, enjoy two activities for the day during your 3 night stay, we’ll immerse ourselves in the rugged landscape of Ruaha National Park, one of Tanzania’s most wild, remote, and rewarding safari destinations. Activities include, Walking Safaris, Experience the park on foot, guided by expert park rangers, for an up-close encounter with wildlife and nature or 4×4 Guided Game Drives, Explore diverse habitats and spot a wide range of animals, from African wild dogs, Elephants and Lions to rare bird species, against the backdrop of dramatic scenery. As part of the Southern Circuit, Ruaha sees far 

    fewer visitors than the other parks, offering an exclusive and truly authentic wilderness experience.

    DAY 9:

    After breakfast, enjoy two exciting activities for the day. Choose from: Walking Safari on Foot, Explore the park closely with expert park rangers or 4×4 Guided Game Drive – Cover more ground and spot wildlife from the comfort of a vehicle. Ruaha National Park is home to a remarkable diversity of wildlife, offering a unique ecosystem where predators, herbivores, and birds coexist. Key species include: Large Mammals: Elephants, lions, giraffes, zebras, African hunting dogs, crocodiles, and hippopotamuses (mainly in the Ruaha River). Antelopes and Other Herbivores: Greater and lesser kudus, Grant’s gazelles, sable antelopes, and roan antelopes. Other Mammals: Striped hyenas and Spotted hyena. Other Notable Species: Ostriches and a variety of other wildlife. Birdlife: The park boasts over 540 recorded species of birds, making it a paradise for birdwatchers.

  • DAY 10: Ruaha National Park / flight to Dar Es Salaam

    After breakfast, check out of your lodge. "Time to say farewell to You safari guide"  At 09:00 hrs, you will be transferred from Ruaha River Lodge to Msembe Airstrip for your scheduled flight to Dar es Salaam. The journey, lasting approximately 2 hours and 20 minutes, will smoothly transition you from the untamed wilderness of Ruaha to the vibrant, bustling energy of Dar es Salaam—carrying unforgettable memories of your safari adventure. 

    Meal: Breakfast.
